Pinewood Elementary History

Pinewood Elementary opened in 1966 and is located in the north central section of Baltimore County.  The school, situated within a quiet residential area, is surrounded by large trees, lovely grounds and well-equipped playgrounds and athletic fields.  There is currently a Before and After School Program sponsored by Play Center.  Students attend Ridgely Middle School and Dulaney High School after the completion of grade 5 at Pinewood.

Pinewood Elementary is fortunate to have an active and involved parent community.  The high level of attendance at school sponsored functions, home-school communication and support of the school is evidence of this involvement.  The PTA is actively involved in various aspects of the school as well as supporting a volunteer program.  The strong parent support is a very positive component of our students’ continued excellent performance.

Our professional staff consists of highly qualified teachers and instructional assistants.  There are 33 full time and 6 part time teachers as well as 5 full time instructional assistants and 3 part time instructional assistants.

At Pinewood Elementary we believe that every student is capable of learning the skills necessary to reach their full potential.  It is our mission as educators to respond to individual learning styles, and to ensure that all students are actively engaged in the learning process.  We provide instructional programs that capitalize on the students' strengths.  Pinewood Elementary Students will strive for excellence in all academic areas within a rigorous program.

The staff will provide opportunities for each student to achieve success.  Our curriculum is delivered in an atmosphere of ongoing assessment and dynamic instruction.  Academic progress is consistently measured. It is our intention that our students emerge with the knowledge, skills, compassion, and attitudes to be responsible , contributing citizens in our multicultural society.
