Grade 5
5th grade is working on measurement in math. Do
you know how many inches are in a foot? Do you know how
many quarts make up a gallon? 5th graders will use the
story of King Gallon to remember. Here is the story: There once
was a king named gallon. He had four queens. Each queen
had two princes. Each prince had 2 children and each child
ate 8 onion rings. This way you remember that 4 quarts make up
a gallon. Two pints make up a quart. 2 cups makes
up a pint. Each cup has 8 ounces. In reading, we
are reading stories about the pioneers moving west. We
will begin a story about a family that settled in California
from Mexico. Students have been able to play the game
Oregon Trail that replicates what it is like to ride in a covered
wagon across the United States in the 1800s. Fifth graders
are also working on predicting the weather and identifying weather
patterns in their science unit Weather the Weather.
