Stop and Think

If you enter the halls of Berkshire this year, you will see many children responding to the words, "Stop and Think"!  This is the name of our new school-wide social skills and discipline program.  With this program, students are asked to make choices about their behavior and be responsible for the outcome of those choices.    If students make a good choice, he/she will be praised; if it is a bad choice, the student will have consequences. 

    All Berkshire students will be taught specific social skills on a regular schedule.  Through the use of the "Stop & Think" program, these skills will be reinforced throughout the school, all year.

The Social Skills are:

• Listening

• Following directions

• Asking for help

• Ignoring distractions

• Responding to teasing

• Accepting consequences

• Expressing your own and recognizing others' feelings

• Using self-control

Everyone in the school has been trained in this national program.  There will be an upcoming parent meeting explaining the details of this program soon.
