Community: Jacksonville Elementary School is located in the central area of Baltimore County. It serves a community of professional and semi-professional residents. A very active PTA, as well as numerous parent volunteers, provide support for the school program

School: Jacksonville Elementary opened in September, 1994 and is one of the county's largest elementary schools with a current enrollment numbering 580 students. Upon completing their schooling at Jacksonville, students attend either Hereford or Cockeysville Middle Schools.

Staff: The school's professional staff were all selected for their commitment to Jacksonville's mission and goals. There are 22 regular classroom teachers and 4 special educators. Special area staff include a media specialist, a vocal music teacher, an instrumental music teacher, 2 art teachers, 2 physical education teachers, and a technology facilitator. Support services are provided by 2 speech/language pathologists, 1 guidance counselor, 1 school nurse, 2 reading specialists, and 5.5 paraprofessionals.

Program: Incorporating the best of traditional and innovative practices, Jacksonville's educational program offers an enriched and challenging environment for students. Instruction is differentiated to ensure success for all students. The building is completely networked, and there are computers in every classroom, in addition to the computer lab which houses 30 computers. Technology is incorporated into the regular curriculum and instruction in ways that encourage students to relate to the real world and develop their reading, writing, and language skills in purposeful ways. The special education program serves as a model for other schools. A full range of services, including a primary and an intermediate adaptive class, reading classes, and inclusion resources, meet the diverse needs of students. Opportunities are provided for students to participate in a variety of enrichment programs, such as choral and instrumental music presentations, Quiz Bowl, and a home/school science program called "Sacks of Science."
