McCormick Elementary School Uniforms

Based on overwhelming support from student groups, parents, community stakeholders and staff, McCormick Elementary School has implemented a school-wide dress code for Kindergarten through Grade 5, which began August 25th, 2008. Below are the guidelines for the “Retriever Pride Wear”.

The following represents the policies for our young ladies and gentlemen:

  • Short or long sleeve plain, solid color polo shirt (collared) or crewneck sweatshirt in cold months (Kindergarten – Grade 4 = “Light Blue” & Grade 5 = “Gray or Royal Blue”)
  • Tan Khaki pants, capris, skirts, skorts, or shorts (below finger tip and/or top of the knee)
  • All belts must be appropriate (no hidden compartments) and be worn at the waist
  • No chains of any kind should be worn or attached to pants
  • No studded belts

Note: School uniforms may be purchased at local merchants such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Shoe City, Boscov’s, JC Penny, etc.

Other general purpose BCPS/MCES dress policies for all students during all school activities:

  • Secured footwear (no flip-flops) preferably closed toe to prevent injury while walking the hallways or participating in class activities
  • Shirt sleeves must remain down your arm. No rolled-up sleeves or shirts tied at midriffs. No exposed underarms, chests or midriffs
  • No apparel, including jackets and outerwear, with obscene drawings/pictures/statements or that makes reference to drugs/alcohol or violence
  • Winter jackets are not to be worn during class time. These items should be stored in the student’s locker
  • Hats and headgear, unless for religious or medical reasons, are not to be worn inside the building. (Religious/medical waivers to be granted by the school’s administration/nurse)
