2008-09 Vocabulary Program

Intermediate Vocabulary Words

Week 1 Presented by: Mrs. Pat Baltzley, B.C.P.S. Director of Mathematics

rounding – explaining a number with a number that tells how much or how many    

rectangular pyramid – a solid figure with a rectangle for it’s base and triangles for all other faces

algebraic expression – an expression with variables

obtuse angle – an angle that measures more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees

 

Week 2 Presented by: Mr. Phil Walter, McCormick Elem. Physical Education Teacher

flexibility – the range of motion at the joints

physical education – education in the care of the body through athletics

strength – the ability of a muscle or muscle group to demonstrate power of force

endurance – the ability of a muscle group to work over a period of time

 

Week 3 Presented by: Senator Kathy Klausmeier, 8th District

ratification  - process by which people express formal approval of a plan

constituents – people who live in an elected official’s area

senator – a member of the senate which represents the highest legislative functions in government

nomination – the act of choosing someone for a political office

 

Week 4 Presented by: Mrs. Elizabeth (Penny) Parker, Overlea High School Principal

dictionary – a reference source in print or electronic form giving information about meanings, pronunciations and uses

genre - a particular type or category of literary, musical, or artistic composition

lexicon – a dictionary using particular words pertaining to a profession

protagonist – the main character in a play, novel, or story

November 26th Thanksgiving Holiday Schools / Offices CLOSED
