2008-09 Vocabulary Program

Primary Vocabulary Words

Week 1 Presented by: Mrs. Pat Baltzley, B.C.P.S. Director of Mathematics

sum – answer when numbers are added         

addend -  each number that is added to another number

digit – the symbol used to write numbers  0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

odd number – all odd numbers end in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9

 

Week 2 Presented by: Mr. Phil Walter, McCormick Elem. Physical Education Teacher

locomotion skills – movements of the body from one place to another

speed – the ability to move quickly

sportsmanship – a positive quality of behavior of a person playing a sport

non-locomotion – movements that occur without moving the body like stretching, bending, shaking

 

Week 3 Presented by: Senator Kathy Klausmeier, 8th District

veto - president’s ability to refuse to let something become a law

candidate – person who wants to run for public office

government – people working together to bring order to a community

election – process of voting for an elected official

 

Week 4 Presented by: Mrs. Elizabeth (Penny) Parker, Overlea High School Principal

novel – a long narrative or a story that usually has imaginary characters and events

borrow – to take or receive something with the promise of returning it

library – a collection of books, magazines or records

relax – to rest or enjoy oneself away from usual routines

Thurs– 3rd & 4th Grades

Friday – 5th Grade November 19th Report cards go home with students

November 25th Honor Roll / Extra Effort Assembly 9 am

November 26th Thanksgiving Holiday Schools / Offices CLOSED

November 27th Fall Holiday Schools / Offices CLOSED
