Special
Programs
 |
To
promote educational excellence, the Rodgers Forge School
Based Management Team composed of community representatives,
parents, and staff, completes a yearly strategic plan,
called the School Improvement Plan. Data collection, demographic study, and a revision
of our mission and vision statement were completed by the
School Improvement Team members. The goals for our
school reflect the instructional needs of our students and
are focused on achievement.
A wide range of activities take place at Rodgers Forge.
Parent volunteers assist in the classrooms and cafeteria,
and orchestrate the ArtSteps program for our children.
All enrichment programs are directly tied to the Essential
Curriculum.
In 2004, the entire community raised over $36,000 to
benefit the school's technology program, in an event
called Tech Trek. Interactive Smart Boards, projectors,
wireless lap tops, software, multi-media carts and classroom computers have been
purchased with the funds.
Rodgers Forge parents are avid supporters of the school
and actively initiate and participate in numerous activities
to strengthen the instructional program. As we continue
to move forward, it is the cooperation and collaboration
of staff and parents that makes the school a success. |

Fun Facts About Our School
 |
-
Rodgers Forge
was the name of the blacksmith
shop that George Rodgers founded in 1800. George
Rodgers was a 19-year-old Irish immigrant who bought
four acres of land and built his blacksmith shop on the
southeast corner of Stevenson Lane and York Road.
Rodgers devoted his time to shoeing horses for the
nearby estates and travelers along the "York Turnpike."
-
A "forge"
is a furnace or hearth where metals are heated or
wrought.
-
Rodgers
Forge Elementary School was established in 1951 for
grades 1-6. Our present day cafetorium used to be
the auditorium and gym, and the rec. room was the school
cafeteria! Many children actually went home for
lunch! Kindergarten was added to the school in the
late 1960s.
-
Our
school emblem is of a young horse's head within a horseshoe.
 -
We are
officially called the "Rodgers Forge Colts." Our
school mascot is a young horse, or colt. In the
spring of 2003, the students, teachers and staff at RFES
voted to name our school mascot "Rodger." Rodger
loves to take part in our many spirited school events!
-
Our
school colors are red & white. Every
Friday is Red & White Day for the entire school.
The first Friday of each month, however, is
Spirit Day at RFES. School-wide festivities
include Rodger, "Spirit Store" and spirit-related
surprises!
