Absences


	If your child is ill and will be missing school, you must call in their absence by 9:00am. Call the Nurse's Office at 410-296-2437 to leave a message. Be sure to include your child's name, grade, homeroom teacher, and the nature of the illness. The Maryland State Department of Education requires that schools code absences as *Excused* or *Unexcused*.

	Students absent from school due to family vacations should be coded Unexcused. There is no excused absence code for family vacation. The Maryland School Attendance Law (Education Article, Section 7-301) also allows that "A county superintendent, school principal, or an individual authorized by the county superintendent or principal may excuse a student for a necessary absence."
