ASK Mr. S

Dear Mr. S., I know we talked last
week, but I am still having problems. My teacher is being
unfair. I always get in trouble, even when it is not my fault!
Like this morning, Sam and I were talking in line and my teacher
told ME to "stop talking".
Angry in Parkville
Dear Angry, I'm glad you brought
this up again. One of the reasons you continue to get in
trouble is that you are not learning from your mistakes.
Instead, you are blaming your problems on everyone else. Next
time a teacher corrects your behavior I want you to quietly say this
to yourself - she is trying to help. These five words
will remind you that you're teacher is trying to teach you the right
way to act so you can be successful one day. She is not
picking-on you, but trying to make things better for you and the
rest of class. It is important that you do not waste time
being angry over silly stuff; to prevent this, I want you to work on
changing the way you think. Instead of looking to blame
someone else the next time your teacher corrects you, remind
yourself that she is trying to help, and do your best to accept what
she says.
Keep me posted, Mr. S.

The BIGs program is underway!
Recruitment is low this year so students interested in a BIG will
have to wait until more mentors volunteer their time. If you'd
