 About Our School

The Bridge Center is a short-term intervention program serving middle and high school students in both the Northwest and Southwest areas of Baltimore County. The students recommended for placement at the Bridge Center are entering the school system from other states, school systems, or agency placements. These students are generally at-risk for academic failure for reasons such as gaps in school attendance and/or lack of current or incomplete records. These reasons make it difficult for the comprehensive school to provide an effective schedule. The impact of upheavals in student living arrangements and significant family problems are additional barriers for students’ transitions to a new learning environment.

During a student’s stay (one to three week period) at the Bridge Center instructional support is provided, assessments are completed, counseling is provided, and records are requested. The Center Staff develops a Student Support Plan for the student’s integration into the comprehensive school program within the comprehensive school. Once in the comprehensive school, students are provided with needed support from designated itinerant staff to meet the challenges of the standard curriculum and increase their chances of attaining school success.

The Bridge Center serves a maximum of 70 secondary students daily. Students attend four 75-minute classes per day. English, reading, mathematics, and skills are offered in the program. Skill classes include drug education, personal development, social skills, study skills, and wellness education. These skills are provided on a rotating basis. Average class size is 12 students. Both the middle and high school have an instructional assistant. Students are provided access to current technology to enhance their educational program.

The Bridge Center is located in Lansdowne, Maryland and is serviced by three dedicated buses. Students attend school from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The staff workday is from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A satellite cafeteria will provide student meals.
