Loch Raven High School is a public, comprehensive high school, which opened in September, 1972. The current enrollment is 1201 students in Grades 9 through 12. Loch Raven is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, by the Maryland State Department of Education, and by the National Association of College Admission Counselors. Loch Raven High School complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice.

In the final report from the Middle States Visiting Committee, they said, "The overall climate at Loch Raven is excellent. Students, faculty, and parents all seem to enjoy the academic and extra-curricular program it provides. The vast majority of the students we met felt a genuine pride in their school. Students were actively engaged in their education and spoke highly of the faculty. Loch Raven High School is an outstanding school."
