2008-2009 Shining Stars

Ms. Sherwood
Congratulations to Ms. Sherwood!
While 24 OVERLEA students, competing with over 300 other FBLA students, returned victorious
(you’ve seen the first, second, third and fourth place winners’ names), Veronica Sherwood wasn’t on the list!

We know students don’t win all those prizes without outstanding preparation---in the classroom and out of it. Ms. Sherwood puts in time after school and after hours and provides students with the content knowledge they need to win and good manners to win with grace. People always comment on how well our students behave and they are always surprised. Go figure! Most of us know mentoring, listening to, spending time with, students is one of the best

Damitra Jackson
Fantastic First Year
The Stars are shining at Overlea…Congratulations to Damitra Jackson, a new member of the OHS math department. Overlea is Ms. Jackson's first teaching assignment. This first year teacher is recognized for her pleasant personality, always being on hall duty (2nd floor) greeting students when they arrive to class and return from lunch; for building relationships with students; demonstrating outstanding classroom management and engaging lessons! What a way to begin the year. Continue the excellent beginning while sitting in your OHS chair.

Jessica Shuey
TODAY, THE SPOTLIGHT AND SHOOTING STARS ARE FALLING ON Overlea graduate , Jessica Shuey!   If you were a teacher at Overlea (or her teacher) when she was a student (just four or five years ago!), DO congratulate her on an excellent observation. New and experienced teachers may enjoy seeing her take charge in her class. I’ve considered calling Harry Wong because; she’s got it going on---instruction, management, civility; positive, cooperative learning environment, procedures and routines, and mutual respect! Jessica must have taken the best of all her teachers and now embodies those best practices. If you taught Jessica, you should be mighty proud. Go, Falcons!

THE STARS ALSO FELL ON several first year teachers who have simply been outstanding in their first observations. We have a wonderful group of eager, enthusiastic, knowledgeable teachers. They are doing a terrific job with classroom management, effective instruction and procedures and routines. Congratulations to Mr. Piscopo, Mr. McNally, Mr. Thompson, and Ms. Wolf. I’m just basking in their combined brilliance!
