Life Skills

The goal of our Life Skills program is to acquire and master the skills necessary to become contributing members of our society. It is, therefore, a method of instruction to increase the students’ independent living and vocational skills through school and community settings. The community setting is an integrated part of the students’ instructional or school experience as the students develop their consumer, leisure, employment and living skills.
Our students work at different locations during the school day. They develop good work habits that prepare them for future employment.
In addition, they further their development by participating in community based instruction. A day was spent at the Maryland State Fair in which they viewed the many products manufactured in our state. Many companies that contribute to our state economy were seen and possible employment opportunities were explored.
In our unique program, academic skills are presented in the classroom and then expanded into community settings such as restaurants, shopping malls, and grocery stores. Thus, the skills presented in our program prepare our students for life in our society.
