Art and World Language Departments' Trip to the National Gallery of Art in DC
Art, Spanish 4 Honors and Spanish 5 Advanced Placement students went to the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. on April 25th.  The chaperones for the trip were Ms. Fishel, Mr. Grace (both art teachers), Ms. Gallagher (Spanish) and Mr. Ickes (English/library).  Art students went on a tour called, "The Painter," and Spanish students went on one called, "Spanish Art" (unfortunately for Ms. Gallagher, the tour was in English!  Gasp!).  After the mornings' tours, students had an opportunity to explore some of the other museums in the area surrounding the Mall in DC.  Some of the museums visited included:  Smithsonian Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Natural History Museum, the Freer Museum of Asian Art and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (all of which were FREE!!!).

These two distinct groups annually take a trip to visit museums (in DC and New York City) that display artwork that students may not otherwise get an opportunity to see.  Everyone had a great time and enjoyed discovering new art and artists!  The upper level Spanish students had an opportunity to continue their studies of Spanish art by seeing some of the art that they have studied in real life!  Part of the curriculum in the upper levels includes both the study of art and history.  Art students had the opportunity to study artist mentors by experiencing the works in person, instead of through reproductions and digital images.
