Getting to Know SPHS...

Welcome to Sparrows Point High School. Our school is located in southeastern Baltimore County, Maryland and has served generations from a long-established and stabile community. Few high schools enjoy the very strong sense of community and support that exists among students, parents, and residents of the greater Sparrows Point community. At SPHS “we expect the best!”

We are a comprehensive high school for grades 9 – 12 with an enrollment of approximately 855 students. A wide range of programs is offered including the SPECIES program, an environmental science magnet program focusing on the science of the wetlands and aquatic environs surrounding our beautiful and historic campus. Our classrooms and laboratories go beyond the traditional brick and mortar to include marshland, the Back River and the Chesapeake Bay!

We have recently augmented our academic program to include a full-time instrumental and chorale music program, drama and theater, and engineering. We enjoy a competitive inter-scholastic varsity and junior varsity program in which during the course of the year over two-thirds of our students participate. This year marks the inauguration of a new athletic stadium, First Mariner Field at Sparrows Point!

In addition to strengthening our academic program, we are excited that building renovations to Sparrows Point High School are scheduled to begin this year.  Both cosmetic and structural modifications will take place making our building more comfortable and usable for students, staff, parents, and visitors.

Qualified seniors have the opportunity to participate in a unique program in which they can earn high school and college credits at the Community College of Baltimore County, Dundalk campus. It is possible for a senior to earn up to 15 transferable college credits (the equivalent of an entire semester) at the time of his/her high school graduation.

Sparrows Point High School is the home of what we refer to as “Pointer Pride.” We are proud of our community, our history, and most importantly, we are proud of our students and staff. We fervently believe in holding very high expectations of all within our close-knit community. Until recently, Sparrows Point High School has been widely regarded as the “best kept secret in Baltimore County.” With a wonderful group of students and "The East Side Dream Team" (our faculty) we continue our efforts to break that image. We no longer desire anonymity in our accomplishments; we want all, in and out of the neighborhood, to know the wonderful things happening at Sparrows Point.
