This website is dedicated to Towson High School's National Art Honor Society. Like other cousin-honor societies established across the nation, the mission of the NAHS is to promote artistic ideals across the student body. Art is an essential element to humanity, providing a means to escape the confinements of our reality and let our imaginations flow. Academic eligibility is defined as the maintenance of a B average in art classes. Grades can be reviewed by the art department faculty for consideration in special circumstances.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Towson High Chapter of the National Art Honor Society shall be to:

A.    Insure and recognize those students who have shown outstanding ability in art

B.    Foster excellence and a dedicated spirit to the pursuit of art

C.    Further creative abilities and talents of the Society's members, as well as the school's entire art enrollment

D.    All members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in an art area

E.    Bring art to the attention of the school and community'

G.    Further aesthetic awareness in all aspects of the school's total program

Procedure for Membership

Membership in the National Art Honor Society is by invitation of an art teacher. If interested in membership, they are required to complete and submit an application. Their grade average in art, their involvement in art activities beyond classwork requirements, and character references are then monitored by the art department faculty. Students must attend the school at least one full semester prior to being inducted into NAHS and must be taking a full schedule. Candidates meeting our established criteria of scholarship, service, and character are invited to become members. We have a formal Induction and Awards Ceremony with a NAHS exhibit each year that all members are required to attend.

Recognition

Membership in the National Art Honor Society is noted on the student's records and special recognition is given at graduation. Service Certificates and Leadership Certificates are awarded at the annual NAHS Induction and Awards Ceremony.
