Chess Club and Team 2008–2009
What
Learn chess from members of the championship
UMBC Chess Team. Play chess with your friends. Become part
of an Arbutus Middle School Chess Team to compete in local
and national events.
When
During the after school activities period (3–4pm),
whenever the activities bus runs (typically Tuesdays and
Thursdays). Additional meetings most Tuesdays for walkers
and students with rides. Begins September 18.
Where
Arbutus Middle School cafeteria.
Why
Chess develops problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
Chess is a fun, exciting intellectual sport. Chess improves
schoolwork and grades. Chess develops logical thinking. Chess
develops memory. Chess improves concentration. Chess teaches
independence. Chess inspires self-motivation. Chess opens
up the world for you. Chess promotes imagination and creativity.
Chess is a game for people of all ages. Chess shows that
success rewards hard work. Chess develops the capability
to predict and foresee consequences of actions. Chess enables
you to meet many interesting people and make friends.
