24 Math Club |

24 is a math club where
students learn and play the 24 game. It uses 4
numbers and the 4 operations of math in order to get
an answer of 24. The club meets on Wednesdays after
school and is open to all students. We hold a club
competition in February to send representatives to
the county competition in March. |

Clay Club |

Clay Club will start in October and
will be held each Wednesday. Students can ride the
activity bus home.
We
explore the world of clay by creating a variety of
projects. The class runs for about 6 weeks both in
the fall and spring.

Baltimore County Middle Schools. Practice: Monday -
Thursday, 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
Admission: $4.00 for adults,
$2.00 for students

Best Buddies |

Best Buddies is a
friendship club where buddy pairs are created
between students with intellectual disabilities and
students without disabilities. We meet about twice
a month to do group activities planned by the
students and advisors. The buddies are also
encouraged to talk to one another in school, on the
phone, or to get together to do activities they
enjoy outside of school. |

Chess Club |

The chess
club is an informal setting that is open to students
in all grade levels. Group members are given the
opportunity to learn basic strategy while fostering
friendships and improving their overall skill
level. Inter-squad tournaments take place on a
monthly basis, with individual matches serving as
the prime learning arena. |

Every spring the drama club presents a musical play
for the school community. Students audition for the
drama club in the fall and then rehearse throughout
the winter. Other students volunteer to help design
and build the set, work with lighting and sound, or
set up the props. This year's musical will be

Intramurals - Boys |

Open to 7th
and 8th grade boys only. A flag football
tournament runs from September to Mid- November. In
January and February boys from any grade can join to
play floor hockey. This is a drop-in and play
activity. No team registration is required as of
yet.

Various activities are introduced and
played. Some activities include; volleyball,
basketball, badminton, tennis, etc. Girl
Intramurals can be a great place to meet new faces.
It’s a lot of fun and a good learning experience.
The activities will start mid-October.

Math Counts |

Math Counts is a math contest where
school teams compete against each other. Students
involved in this club will work together and
individually to answer challenging mathematical
problems. The problems require students to use
their knowledge in many different areas of
mathematics. Students are admitted to Math Counts
by invitation only. |

Maryland MESA is a program designed to encourage
minorities and females in achieving success in STEM
fields. A group of students will participate in
MESA Day Competitions in the spring. |
Music
Celtic Ensemble |

Celtic Ensemble is a wonderful way to
experience music from other countries while
improving you musical skills. This ensemble will be
playing traditional music of Ireland, Scotland,
Wales, and England. This is an instrumental music
ensemble open to all string, flute, percussionist,
guitar, banjo, and mandolin players. This group is
also open to anyone from the community who would
like to play with us. All the music can be adjusted
to different skill levels. We will be
performing in the Winter and Spring Concerts here at
Catonsville in addition to other performances
outside school.
Rehearsals
are on Wednesdays (slower tempo) and Thursdays
(faster tempo) from 3:00 to 4:00. Students may come
on either or both days. |

Guitar Club |

Guitar club is open to anyone interested in learning
a few basic chords and some simple songs on the
guitar. No experience necessary. No equipment
needed. The activity bus is not available on this
day.
Guitar club is held on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 3:30. Guitar
club begins in October and runs through February. |

The Jazz
Band is open to students who play saxophone,
trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar, and drum
set. . The group will perform at the Side By Side
Concert and the Spring Concert, and if possible, at
other venues in the community at dates to be
announced.
The Jazz Band rehearses on Thursdays from 3-4:30 pm
beginning in January. |

all students at CMS. The group will perform at

Students enrolled in
chorus in the 7th and 8th
grade are eligible to audition for the County Honors
Chorus. This group is made up of students from
throughout the county and is formed by audition.
This year, auditions take place on Saturday,
November 4th at Dumbarton Middle School.
Mr. Roy will be working with students to prepare
them for their auditions after school in the month
of October. The Honors Concert features the Honors
Band, Chorus, and Orchestra and is televised on the
Education Channel.

The
Catonsville Middle Girls Choir, directed by Mr. Roy,
is an auditioned group of 27 girls that performs at
Catonsville Middle and in the community. Auditions
take place the first 2-3 weeks of school. Any girls
interested in singing from all grade levels are
invited to audition. Students do not need to be
enrolled in chorus during the school day to audition
for the group. The Girl’s Choir also takes a yearly
field trip to an amusement park to compete with
other schools in the Maryland/ Pennsylvania/Virginia
area.

after school on Wednesdays from 2:50-4:00

National Junior
Honor Society |

Students in grades
7 and 8 are invited to join the NJHS after being on
the honor roll for the first three report cards.
These students must also have completed at least 15
hours of community service, have high attendance
standards, and are reviewed by a faculty committee
on character traits as specified by the national
organization. Students in the NJHS work on service
activities throughout the year which benefit
Catonsville Middle School or the Catonsville
Community. |

Robotics Club |

Students will develop
troubleshooting, research and development, and
experimentation skills as they design and build a
robot to accomplish a specific goal. There are no
plans to go to a robotics competition this year. |

The student
government association (SGA) is an extremely active
organization that deals with all aspects of student
life. The SGA is comprised of an executive board
formed of 7th and 8th grade
students and representatives from all grades. SGA
members will be asked to coordinate school wide
activities that encourage social interaction through
recreational activities, fund raising events, and
educational opportunities. The SGA also functions
as a liaison between the students and the faculty
and administration. The SGA provides students with
an opportunity to take leadership roles among their
peers and to make a difference in school climate and
life. |

A team orientated activity
which stresses current events in a format that
allows for the students to broaden their knowledge
about the world and the impact of trends on
society. Schools compete against each other in an
attempt to win the Baltimore County Championship.
