Please wait to read Hatchet, The Giver, Walk in Wolf Wood, Incredible Journey, Anne Frank, Tom Sawyer, Dear Mr. Henshaw, Slake's Limbo, Homesick: My Own Story, My Side of the Mountain, Number the Stars, Belle Prater's Boy, The River, Brian's Winter, and Lyddie, as they are part of the curriculum.

- One historical fiction novel (American history)
Please do not read A Tale of Two Cities, Johnny Tremain, Witch of Blackbird Pond, Dicey's Song, Toning the Sweep, A Day No Pigs Would Die, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Across Five Aprils, Midsummer Night's Dream, A Raisin in the Sun, Summer of My German Soldier, and The Acorn People, as these novels are part of the eighth grade curriculum.

You may duplicate the writing prompt sheets as needed for your own selections and grade level requirements. You must turn in two completed writing prompt sheets with parent signature on each in order to get credit for your reading. Please note that grade 8 students will use two fiction prompts. Feel free to use the back of the prompt sheets if you need more room. Additional prompt sheets will be available on the counter in Dumbarton's main office if you need extras during the summer. Or print out prompt sheets from this Website!
