1. Do you get to choose your classes?

-Yes, you so get to choose some of your specials, like which music class you prefer.  The rest of the classes are core classes that are sixth grade requirements.

2. Do you sit with your friends at lunch that are not in your homeroom?

     -For the first couple of weeks, you will sit with your homeroom until everyone

       becomes familiar with the cafeteria and its routines.  Then, you will earn free

       seating as long as everyone is obeying the rules of the cafeteria.

3. How much does lunch cost?

-Lunch currently costs $2.20.

4. What is the dress code at Hereford Middle?  Can you wear hats in class?  How about flip-flops and slip-on shoes?

-The dress code at Hereford Middle requires you to wear no clothing that makes references to drugs, alcohol, etc.  There should be no undergarments showing, and no midriffs showing as well.  Shorts and skirts should be the length of your arm, all the way down to your fingertips if you were to let them hang down next to you.  Hats are not to be worn in school.  Flip-flops and slip-on shoes

are allowed.

5. How do we sign up for after school activities and clubs?

-The morning announcements will tell you where and when to sign up for particular after school clubs and activities.

6. How do you start a club like a photography club?

-All you need to do is find a teacher to sponsor it, and then with their approval and help, you can form your own club.

7. What happens if you get lost and you are late for class?

       –If you get lost and are late to class the first week or two, do not worry.  The

         teachers are very understanding.  There are plenty of students, teachers and staff

         to help you locate your destination.  It will not be long before you are an expert! 

8. What do you do if you forget your locker combination?

-The best advice is to write your combination down somewhere secret in your belongings, so that you can retrieve it easily in a pinch.  Your teacher will also be able to help.  Buy your combination locks early and practice during the summer.

9. Can we bring in electronics?

-Yes, you can, but at YOUR OWN RISK.  Cell phones must be turned off and left in your locker at all times.

10. How do the kids know when to leave class?  Is it by a bell or other?

-There is no bell that rings between classes.  It is up to the teachers to dismiss you at the appropriate times.

11. How long is a school day?

-A school day starts at 7:40 and ends at 2:05.

12. How long are the classes?

-Each class is 50 minutes in length.

13. How many teachers do you have each day?

-You will usually have 7 teachers a day, but on the A/B system in place, you may have up to 8 teachers total.

14. How do you find your bus?

-You will receive a map with all of the bus stops.  Someone on the staff will help you find your bus in the afternoon.

15.  How many periods are there and how much time do you have in between classes?

-There are 7 periods a day.  You have five minutes to get to your next class.

16. Do you have hall passes when you go to the bathroom?

-Yes.  You use your planner as your hall pass to use the bathroom.  Your teacher will sign the planner and then you are free to go.

17. How many students are there at Hereford Middle?

- There are about 1,000 students at Hereford Middle School.

18. Do you have detention?

-YES!

19. How many hours of homework do we have a night?

-In sixth grade, you should have about one hour, but that will fluctuate a little more and a little less depending on projects, tests, etc.

20. Do we get homework over the weekend?

-Yes.  Many weekends you will have assignments to complete.

21. How many books can you check out of the library?

-Just remember the 3x2 rule.  You can check out 3 books at a time and keep them out for 2 weeks. 

22. What are A and B days?

-A and B days really refer to your specials.  On A days, you have certain specials, and on B days, you have different specials.  A and B days alternate every day.

23. Do you have showers inside the gym, and do we have to take a shower in gym?

-Yes, there are showers, and no, you do not have to take one, but you might feel better if you do on hot days!

24. How much is a gym uniform?

-A gym uniform costs $20.00.

25. How many times do you have gym a week?

-You have gym 5 times a week.  Yes, that means everyday! 

26. Do we have to walk in lines in the hallway?

-Imagine life with no more lines and no more line leaders!  You will be free to walk the halls on your own, and use your inside voices while moving from class to class.
