Baltimore County Public Schools Magnet Office Mission:
Magnet schools and programs are one tool for providing quality educational opportunities for all students, regardless of background, in an environment that enhances students’ educational success, and for encouraging all parents to play active roles in their children's education by increasing the educational choices available to parents and students in the public schools.

Goals of Magnet Schools and Programs:

  • Promote educational excellence and offer to students with different interests, talents, and aptitudes, distinct choices that may enhance their educational success;
  • Develop innovative instructional practices and promote systemic reform; and
  • Promote diversity (includes racial, ethnic, economic, gender, and special needs populations) within schools.

Arts Exploration

Students may elect to follow a pathway in either the performing or visual arts. Students selecting Performing Arts are provided with a variety of opportunities including steel pan percussion and theatre (incorporating drama, movement, and song). Students are prepared for individual and ensemble performances and are required to perform for a variety of audiences. Students selecting Visual Arts may earn high school credit and fulfill a required course for Maryland State Graduation

Law and Finance

The Law & Finance Program includes economic literacy and the legal system. It is specifically designed to allow students to explore a wide variety of topics and participate in problem-based learning activities that extend their understanding of legal issues, finance, and business technology in the 21st century. Students will have the opportunity to take the Juvenile Justice high school exam for ½ high school credit. The program prepares students for success in high school magnet offerings in finance, law, and related career and technical programs.

Conservation Sciences

Students study the interrelationships between organisms and their environments, focusing on exploration of Aquatic, Environmental, and Earth/Space sciences. Students have the opportunity to take high school exams in all three areas for high school credit. This program provides a broad foundation for students who wish to continue in a high school science magnet program.
