Rich Assistant Principal of Windsor Mill Middle School Mrs. JoAnn Rich is a dedicated and passionate educator who began her teaching career nearly thirty six years ago in the Baltimore County Public School system. As a long time resident of Baltimore, she attended Morgan State University for both her undergraduate and graduate studies in education. Over the years, Mrs. Rich has taught in elementary and middle school classrooms throughout the county. In recognition of her educational leadership, she has served as an assistant principal in middle schools for the latter portion of her career. During the early years of her career, Mrs. Rich was recruited to assist in the development of Baltimore County’s transition from junior high schools to middle schools. As a middle school educator, Mrs. Rich has been recognized as a pioneer in facilitating the training of faculties as they prepared to become middle schools. In addition to training “new” middle school staff, Mrs. Rich has worked with teams of teachers in writing middle school Reading and English Language Arts curriculum.
Most of Mrs. Rich’s body of work has been at the middle school level. As a member of the leadership teams at Loch Raven Technical Academy, Woodlawn Middle School, and Pine Grove Middle School, Mrs. Rich has served as Acting English Department Chair, Principal of Summer School, Student Support Team Facilitator, Interdisciplinary Team Leader, Magnet Program Facilitator, Facilitator of Summer Scholars Academy, Coordinator of Staff Development, Facilitator of Saturday School, Presenter for New Teacher Induction, Facilitator of the Gifted and Talented program, PBIS Facilitator, Facilitator of the School Improvement Team, Representative for BCPS at the Gifted and Talented Convention (Salt Lake City, Utah), and member of the Superintendent’s G/T Evaluation Committee. After becoming an assistant principal in 1997, she continued to display her commitment to student achievement, teacher quality, and parent involvement. Not only is Mrs. Rich passionate about student academic achievement and teacher professional development, she is equally passionate in her community about family spiritual development. She has served as the Minister of Education at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland where she assisted in the development of the Christian school located at that church. Currently, Mrs. Rich is serving with her husband of forty years, as the co-pastor of a nondenominational church, River of Life Christian Center in Camp Springs, Maryland.
In 2008, Mrs. Rich was awarded the “Shining Star Award” by the Windsor Mill Middle School staff in recognition of her outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions to the school. Mrs. Rich is the proud mother of three sons. Additionally, as a grandmother of seven grandchildren, she enjoys spending quality time with her “crew.” With nearly four decades of educational leadership both in formal and informal settings, Mrs. Rich maintains her focus on student achievement by using as one of her guiding principles, “Teach the children!
