December, 2005 - January, 2006

 

1.)     Introduction to The Oral History Project and topics

2.)     Discussions on The Oral History Project and the focus question

3.)     The Oral History Project & focus question clarifications

4.)     The Oral History topic and focus questions selections due by Wed., Jan. 26, 2006

 

Wed., February 2, 2006

 

1.)     Narrow topic and write research focus question.

2.)     Question should be approved by Wed., Feb. 2, 2006,  2005.

3.)     Begin research as soon as your focus question has been approved.  (See description of research below in March).

4.)     Begin to gather contact information on your interviewee.

5.)     Begin to organize your research information sources.  Begin contact your interview subject in mid-February.

6.)     Conduct a preliminary interview over the phone to evaluate this person as a source.

 

February, March, 2006

 

1.)     Research in the library or classroom, one class period a week.  Outside research will be crucial and is necessary.

2.)     You have your choice of how to take notes (i.e. index cards or sticky notes).  **See teacher before you being this.

3.)     You must organize your notes using an appropriate graphic organizer or outline before you turn them in.  **See your teacher for examples of graphic organizers.

4.)     You must make a Works Cited (Bibliography) of all your resources.

5.)     Begin working on your Power Point Slides.

6.)     Finally, you must answer your focus questions in writing.

7.)     The research notes, graphic organizer, Works Cited (Bibliography) and written answer to the focus questions are all due Wed., March 23, 2006.

8.)     After your research is completed, begin writing 20-25 questions for your interview subject.  Be sure to include objective, subjective, closed-ended and open-ended questions.

Your interview questions are due on Wed., April 6, 2006.

 

April, 2005

 

After your preliminary interview (over the phone) in February, set the date for your formal interview.  All interviews should be held between April 6, 2006 and April 20, 2006 (after interview questions have been approved).  Interview audio tapes will be due Wed., April 24, 2006.

 

May, 2006

 

            Final Oral History package is due Fri., April 27, 2006.

 

May 17, 2006 (Wednesday) (4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.)

 

            Woodlawn Middle School Oral History Evening includes displays of student work, an African American Dinner, student presentations, Power Point presentations and a guest speaker.
